Summary: Post-canon. Inuyasha arrives to find their village under siege, and he fears the worst.
Black smoke billowed like thick miasma into the sky, and he could taste ash and blood in the air as he dashed homeward amidst the chaos. War had broken out; his home had been attacked, and the only thing on his mind was the safety of Kagome and their children.
He could sense the priest rushing behind him, but Inuyasha knew that Miroku’s human form could not speed up the way his could.
With his stomach tied in knots, he rounded up the hill and bounded into the air onto a fortunate tree that survived among the scorched stalks of its brothers and sisters of the forest. As his feet remained secure on a tall branch, his gaze swept throughout the carnage. His nerves tense, he felt an ache rise in his throat as he saw the scattered remains of his family home.
“No…” he whined in his breath. He was about to unleash a cry of fury until he felt her presence, gleaming brightly like a star. He held onto that string of power, that pure energy which had slid its way into his bones and found a home within his heart.
Suddenly, he saw it - a dome of purple-pink energy encasing some of the villagers over an untouched portion of the forest. Soldiers and demon allies were trying to pierce through, but the energy was too strong, and he had no doubt in her power.
“Inuyasha!” she screamed his name, and his ears twitched. It was as if she sensed him too.
“I’m coming,” he called out to her, feeling that old familiar purpose of when he had first met her.
Descending from the tree branch, he sped off to save her; even though he knew that deep down, Kagome was the one who saved them all.
