Summary: Two lonely shifters meet each other.

Her days in Bon Temps fly by, and Leah doesn’t even notice that a month has passed and she has found comfort in the strange little town, as well as a place within Sam’s home. She adjusts to the feeling of having someone that loves her, as well as having a person she loves in turn. Sam dotes on her, and well within that month of living together, he tells her how he feels.
“I love you,” he says, pulling her close to him within their cramped bed, trailing kisses in her hair and on her face.
Leah’s heart swells, and she says it back with excitement. She shifts on the bed and climbs on top of him, arching against his warm, taut body and consuming his mouth with a kiss. He wraps his arms around her, and the feelings between them spark a fire, spurring them into another round of lovemaking. Leah will never tire of Sam’s touch, and every moment she spends with him her old life slips away more and more.
All of her anger and bitterness seems like a distant dream, like she’d been a different person in La Push. The more she adjusts to her life with Sam and working with him at the bar, the less she thinks about her past.
Of course she misses her family. Sometimes she thinks of Seth and Jacob and wonders what they are up to, and she hopes they are staying out of trouble and that they are safe. She hopes that Seth is growing up as a better Beta for Jacob, and she has confidence that her brother can do anything he sets his mind to.
As for Jacob, she only wishes that he is happy and loved, and that his new mate, the hybrid child Renesmee, does not put him in too much danger.
Though her thoughts linger to her family once in awhile, Leah admits that she sometimes forgets about them, and she gets caught up in the frenzied moments of her new life. She feels consumed and overwhelmed sometimes being this loved by Sam, and her happiness eclipses any of her worries or the scars from her past.
Leah becomes a fixture in Bon Temps and one of the most popular waitresses at Merlotte’s. She helps Sam like a business partner, and the customers notice how much she has improved the bar and Sam’s spirits. She has even overcome her jealousy toward Sookie and her prejudice against Jessica, and soon the three women grow to friendlier terms. Leah can’t admit to being close to the mind reading waitress and the fledgling vampire, but she does have a level of trust for them, and will admit that Jessica is the first vampire she’ll ever defend.
She doesn’t mind Bill much either when he comes to see Sookie, and despite their problems, she sees that Bill and Sookie seem to work well together.
Each day she has to work at Merlotte’s with her coworkers and the customers, the more Leah feels like she truly belongs here in Bon Temps. And Sam definitely makes her feel more than welcome in his life and home.
It’s another Sunday night, and Leah and Sam fall into their routines, cleaning up the bar and preparing to close the place until late Monday afternoon. Leah looks forward to their Sundays, because it feels as though she has more time alone with Sam, without distractions from work and other people.
Sam smiles at her while they clean and organize the last lingering tasks before turning the key on the door and locking the building for the night. Sam heads to his house, and Leah follows as she wipes the sweat from her brow.
“I could really use a shower,” Leah says. “I’m still not used to this Louisiana heat.”
Sam chuckles. “I don’t know if a winter wolf like you will ever get used to it,” he says, and Leah watches as his eyes start to sparkle. She’s been with him long enough to know that look; there is mischief in his eyes, and he definitely has an idea. “I think I can suggest something better than a shower.” He moves toward her and draws her into his arms, pulling her body against him. She rubs against his hardness, and a thrill trembles throughout her body. She wonders what is on Sam’s mind but the way he moves against her, she’s sure she’ll like his suggestion.
He nuzzles against her nose and she feels his breath against her face. “I don’t know about you, but I feel ready to crawl out of my skin…” he says, and he inhales a deep breath of her scent. “Want to go for a run?”
She detaches away from him and meets his grin. She smiles at the suggestion, nodding. “Oh, absolutely.”
“Hrmmm, what shall I be tonight?” Sam thinks, and Leah sometimes envies his shifter ability to be anything he wants. She loves her wolf form, but wouldn’t mind the ability to try something else for a change.
“Well,” she says, pausing to look as though she’s thinking deeply. “You’ll have to be something that can catch up with me, so… a cheetah?”
Sam laughs, swatting her butt playfully. “You are too mean.”
“Am not,” she says, nuzzling against him. They meet each other’s eyes again, getting caught in a silent moment as the sun begins to set and the evening wildlife starts to stir around them. Soon stars begin to twinkle over their heads, and Sam and Leah are already removing their clothes, setting them on the steps of Sam’s porch. Leah meets Sam’s lustful gaze, and she almost thinks he’s going to forego the nighttime shifting to pounce on her again, but he pulls back, and she watches him shift into a large pure white wolf. Leah grins, and he comes up to her and nuzzles his nose against her skin, giving her goosebumps.
“Okay, okay, I admit, you look kind of hot,” she says, and she closes her eyes, looks up at the quarter moon, and feels the catch in her blood as she begins to phase. Her human mind transforms, tucked into the pocket of her wolf mind. She huffs a breath, and Sam comes up next to her, rubbing his snout and face against her fur, making her feel more loved.
She barks at him to begin the chase, and she takes off in a sprint, teasing him with a light pace. He catches up, huffs at her, and nips at her fur. She wants to laugh, but only manages to let out a playful growl, and then she meets his eyes for a split second, turns her head, and then she’s off.
Leah can still feel and smell Sam behind her, trying to keep up. She’s impressed as he keeps up to her for the most part, and she admits to slowing her speed just a bit so she doesn’t lose him. Sam knows how fast she can be, and Leah doesn’t feel the need to show off. This night is about their run together, not some race of one over the other.
When Sam catches up, he runs beside her, nipping at her fur and bounding close to tease her and set her off balance. She snaps at him a few times, bouncing like a happy pet, and they dance together, nuzzling, nipping and wrestling into the cool evening grass.
Leah darts off to higher ground, if that’s possible in this swamp, and finds a rocky hill that oversees a marshy wetland. The foliage and plant life is more sparse here, and when she lifts her head, she can see the curve of the moon and the clear glittering stars.
She feels Sam’s presence beside her, and he leans against her as they cuddle under the moonlight. Leah lets out a small cry in her yawn, and Sam buries his muzzle into her fur as they curl into each other. She feels him kissing her, long licks against her fur and she falls into a hazy peacefulness.
They fall asleep as wolves, and Leah feels like it’s the best feeling in the world. They wake at the sound of an owl hooting and then flying off into the distance for prey. The early morning sky begins to breathe to life in colorful hues of blues and yellows. Sam’s ears twitch beside her, and Leah shifts against him enough to stretch her limbs. She meets Sam’s sleepy eyes and sniffs him.
Pulling away, she reluctantly leaves his body heat and begins to phase back, her body tired for shifting for so long. When her body shapes back into a woman, she feels goosebumps as the cool morning air startles her exposed skin. When she turns back to Sam, he’s already shifted back to a human as well, and he’s walking toward her, drawing her into his arms for warmth. She leans into him, still feeling like a wolf as she nuzzles into the curve of his neck.
Sam inhales a deep breath, and he pulls her closer, rocking his naked body against hers. She turns, and he leads her gently down to the ground while capturing her mouth into his. He gives her lazy morning kisses, which turn fiery and demanding quickly, their bodies becoming warmer under the early sun.
Sam covers her body, and Leah wraps her legs around him as he grinds his hips into her, sliding his hardness against her thighs and the warmth in between. She moans as he devours her mouth, sucking on her lips and tongue and trailing his mouth down every bit of her flesh, her neck, her chest, her breasts - like a wild animal with the wolf spirit still raging in his blood.
She arches to his touch, his hands finding purchase on her hips, moving her and shifting him at her entrance. He plunges into her and she bites his lip when he fills her to the hilt. He’s already moving, a fast, rutting pace like he’s starved for her, and Leah thrashes around him, desperate to keep up. He fills her so deeply, so fully, that she doesn’t notice the tears leaking from her eyes, and her mouth going dry as all the blood rushes to their frenzied joining.
“Ah!” she cries. He moves them in a swift, domineering motion and then she’s on her knees, ass in the air as he opens her and quickly buries himself deep as if he’d never left. She’s bending back as much as she can to meet his thrusts, and he’s hitting that spot within her that makes her cry like she’s still a wolf, baying to him and submitting to his pleasure.
Their skin is slick and hot as they continue to move, fucking and making love and finding a comfortable middle between their loving humanity and their wild rutting animal urges.
Sam’s hips begin to pump faster, so fast she can barely take a breath, and then he stops, and she feels him coming, spilling into her and warming her insides. She follows his tremors of afterglow and then feels time stop, just like the catch when she phases, and then she’s floating and finding that pinnacle moment of birth and death, pleasure and pain.
He collapses against her, drawing her into his arms before they fall into the grass in a soft, exhausted heap of sweat and musk.
Leah chuckles a little and traces a teasing finger down his chest. She meets his eyes and quirks up one eyebrow. “I still need a shower.”
Sam grins. “Oh, right. I can help with that.” He slowly stands and she watches him as he holds out his hand. She groans at having to get up, but she takes his hand as he leads her along a path. In a few moments, they come to a clearing where there’s a pond, a little lessy boggy and suspect than most waterways that Leah has seen in this state. This particular pond actually looks refreshing.
“You’re not going to believe this, but this is actually not visible to the eye to non-supes. This place is special,” Sam says. “I found this awhile ago and actually ran into a couple of fairies while they were uh, cavorting in the lake. They spotted me right away of course. I was a dog at that time, and they adored me. So, I swam into the pond with them. It was kind of fun… but ever since then, they’ve been letting me come here when I want.”
“That’s…” Lean doesn’t know what to say, but seeing Sam’s grinning face as he recalled his memory gave her comfort. “That’s really cool. You don’t think they’ll mind if I’m here, do you?”
“Nah,” Sam says, shaking his head. He’s still grinning as he pulls her toward the water. “Come on. If we stay long enough, some of them might even join us.”
Leah laughs and as they come to the edge of the water, Sam looks at her with mischief in his eyes again. Leah knows exactly what he wants to do. So… into the water, they jump.
